The importance of the Referendum

I was impressed by the NO to entry into the European Union, pronounced by the majority of voters on 23.6.16 in the UK. During my 18-year stay in Switzerland, I was able to observe how the right to a referendum, anchored in the Swiss constitution: if deliver one hundred thousand citizen petitions to the Federal Government in Bern, it is the duty of the latter to call for a vote on the matter raised, paying for all expenses from the public purse. I remember that more than twenty years ago, the Swiss Federal Government was decided to apply for entry into the European Union, which was prevented precisely by a referendum, which was later repeated for many years, with the same negative result.

And there is to take into account Switzerland is one of the three richest countries in the world, in per capita terms.   Could it be that the referendum is so rejected by the majority of the rulers, because it limits their powers and forces them to look more what the citizens want, by voting not for people but the very affairs of government? It is interesting to note, that the the most important countries like the USA and Germany, although their realization is very easy through the internet, do not have the referendum. It is a pity that the governments keep their distance from their constituents, who support them through high taxes. They listen little to their people with the prejudice that the citizenry doesn’t really know what wants, or who is too ignorant or unworthy.

Symptoms of this arrogant attitude is not lacking in any country, unfortunately. A  positive example, in this respect, is perhaps Helmut Schmidt, in Germany, and good governance in Switzerland.

Excessive demands on the European Union

The European Union now has no choice but to recognize that many of their initiatives and management do not respond to the will of Europeans, but rather to group interests: the equating gay ‘marriages’ to marriage traditional, horrific sex education in schools, their attitude anti-Christian, its bureaucratic growth, its claim to equal taxing all their subject countries, their disastrous policy financially, his claim to abolish physical money, his indecisive attitude to reduce corruption, etc. It would be desirable that the Union European Union to return to its core function, which is to facilitate the trade between member countries. It should be acknowledged that in this field, great objectives have been achieved that have surely increased economic progress.

The same applies The Schengen agreements, which for the purposes of the movement of goods, people and capital have been cancelled at the borders. Now it is feared that the Brexit will trigger a domino effect that points towards greater regional autonomy, such as Scotland. It remains to be seen in the coming months who will be closest the United Kingdom: a new constellation is likely to emerge, analogous to the EU, around the USA-GB axis, where Latin America is probably better received as it has been so far in the The EU, which through protectionist tariffs does not provide aid to emerging countries or the poor countries of Africa.

In any case, seeing what’s happening in the UK the impression arises that the play is going more well than badly, because areas of freedom and fewer controls on the EU, which will primarily favor the UK in the area of international financial business. The election victory of Boris Johnson and del Brexit opens the door to an economic alliance between the UK and USA/Latin America. In this sense, we will probably soon see a new constellation of international agreements that will profoundly change the European paradigm
