On the occasion of Prof. David Thunder’s (University of Navarra) open proclamation of his ‘Populist-Libertarian Manifesto’, I raise the question whether there are threads, which, from secret anonymity, are pulling the strings on the socio-political and economic stage. This question imposes itself considering that the events in the various countries follow an analogous background pattern.
The Power and the Glory
If we turn to the history of any era or century it is striking to see that, in most of the cases, the ultimate motive for all kinds of changes induced by wars, seditions and revolutions has been at bottom the lust for power, except war justified by selfe defense. No transmutation has arisen by spontaneous generation, but every change has been thought out and prepared for beforehand. The lust for power is deeply rooted in the human soul and is even stronger than the lust for wealth, which is usually sought as a means of asserting dominant power over others, whether in a tribe, in the Roman Empire or in today’s hegegonomic countries: today it is the USA, China and Russia that are vying for the title of ‘master of the world’. The ultimate explanation for this vice can be found in the Judeo-Christian teachings on the seven deadly sins. And going deeper into the depths of the human soul, and against the background of the biblical revelations, we see that man, in his high perfection, tends to admire himself, usurping the glory that belongs to God alone, pretending to be God himself. Perhaps in his fits of creative madness, Nietzsche may have wanted to kill precisely this caricature of God. Perhaps few will have read in German his greatest poetry, in whose lyrical apogee, in his work ‘To the Unknown God’ he says: ‘I want to know you, Unknown One, who in the depths of my soul sustains me. My life is like a continuous storm. You, ineffable and at the same time related to me. I want to know you, I want to be yours and serve you’.
In two articles in our thinktank we have reported how the USA, Russia and China seek to subject other countries to vassalage. In the past, this irresistibly seductive dream of vain grandeur has been held by so many others, such as the kings of the ancient empires of China, Egypt, Greece, Rome and Islam. Today we laugh at the sight of their ruins, forgetting that they have made human blood flow in torrents down the stairs of history. The echo of the neighing of their horses and their dreams of greatness have been left in the nothingness.
However, it is up to us now to endure the ambitions of power that continue to manifest themselves in the current wars, before which we have the obligation in conscience to do everything we can to counteract the evils they cause.

In this process, it is interesting to observe the anger and consternation shown by officials who are about to lose their positions, instead of submissively accepting the voice of the sovereign people. Right now, this moment is especially intense in Germany, which is unexpectedly sinking into chaos. At the other extreme we have Hungary, where Orban and his people have been able to recognize bad political machinations in time, enjoying popular support never seen before in Europe.
What will become of us?
For the time being we continue to live in our house or apartment in Europe, enjoying the supply of energy, communication and transport networks: we still lack nothing. This can produce a certain dullness that tends to keep the citizen from putting all his energies into fighting evil, politically, culturally and religiously. It is up to us to defend the achievements of the Judeo-Christian West. It is not the time to dream or to throw weapons into the river. And in this it would be regrettable to lose the morale of final victory, since there are many reasons for sure hope. In order of importance it seems to me that the fronts of struggle are the following:
The internal political front, we must succeed in identifying those who betray the good cause of the state in the parliaments or official organs of approval of laws, prosecuting them judicially.
