Peter Kopa, 7.6.2023, Prague – The English version follows below
This video on ideological infiltration of the university was produced by The Epoch Time, USA. This problem exists also in the other OECD countries, but only in North America is it well publicized. Prof. Peter Boghossian denounces a real crime: the ideological capture of professorships and educational institutions in the USA and in many other countries. Boghossian is a former philosophy professor and co-author of Sokla Squared, which used to publish ideological articles.
He now denounces this medium for publishing intentionally false and absurd articles. And yet they are still considered legitimate contributions in prestigious academic journals. Ideological infiltration of the University has been seen before in the communist regime since 1917, in Nazism and in almost all countries with authoritarian government regimes. Pandemias de las ideas
To oppose ideologies Prof. Boghossian resigned, two years ago, from his teaching position at Portland State University. We quote him as follows: “It does tremendous harm to have professors running institutions and holding lifetime positions in academia, who are utterly convinced that they have found the truth in matters of free opinion, publish it in their own journals, teaching those ‘truths’ to their students, thus indoctrinating generations of students.”
. “In the official DEI [diversity, equity, and inclusion] bureaucracies, we have people who are certifiably intolerant: we have ideologues. They have one set of propositions that they defend at the expense of everything else,” Boghossian says. “In a university you can either have free speech or closed DEI bureaucracies. It’s impossible to have both.” Los ataques de Cancel Culture
Reactions against ideological infiltration of the university.
As long as the Democrats remain in the US government, it will be more difficult to return the University to its status as a body that seeks, above all else, the truth. This is not discussed at the level of mathematics and particular sciences, because here the natural laws and the need to follow the evidence is absolute, on pain of a building collapsing or an airplane not being able to fly. That is to say, logical and natural laws are not discussed, but followed to the millimeter. On the other hand, in the abstract human sciences, where evidence does not impose itself with equal force, there is room for mental lucubrations more or less distant from reality. Here, the moral attitude of the thinking scientist can lead to a distancing from the truth by irrational prejudices or by criteria of economic convenience, such as a well-paid university career.
The presidential candidate in the USA, De Santis, is taking measures to clean up the University in his State of Florida, where he is Governor. Many other political and scientific authorities around the world have the same commitment, since there is the conviction that in the end it is a question of fighting a paper tiger, made up of pieces of ideological discourse and maintained by many opportunists who make a good face at the bad game, as long as they do not lose their position. There are few like Prof. Boghossian, who has had the fortitude to recognize his mistake and accept his resignation.
The underlying philosophical question
Prof. Boghossian quotes Prof. Karl Popper to explain the error contained in the various ideologies of social political combat, which seek to achieve the alienation of the human person and society, so that it can be easily manipulated from a vortex of globalist power. What does Wikipedia tell us about Popper, one of the greatest thinkers of the last century?
Sir Karl Raimund Popper CH FRS FBA[9] (28 July 1902 – 17 September 1994) was an Austrian-British[10] philosopher, academic and social commentator.[11][12][13] One of the 20th century’s most influential philosophers of science,[14][15][16] Popper is known for his rejection of the classical inductivist views on the scientific method in favour of empirical falsification. According to Popper, a theory in the empirical sciences can never be proven, but it can be falsified, meaning that it can (and should) be scrutinised with decisive experiments. Popper was opposed to the classical justificationist account of knowledge, which he replaced with critical rationalism, namely “the first non-justificational philosophy of criticism in the history of philosophy”.[17]
In order to understand the ideological infiltration at the University, we recommend opening the ‘pseudoscience’ link to better understand that in the abstract human sciences there cannot be an unlimited relativism either, which would lead to the concession that there is no extramental objective reality. Ideologies reveal their falsity because they are dogmatically entrenched in their own position, in a tyrannical way, without admitting any discussion or contrary opinion. As an example, it is enough to think of Nazism and communism, or of the factual ideology of materialistic consumerism as something that makes one happy. Moreover, we suffer from ecological ideologies, whose climate terrorism has no scientific justification whatsoever La verdad desnuda sobre el CO2 y el clima.
The lies propagated by the states in relation to the COVID 19 pandemic have dealt a severe blow to their trustworthiness. And this deterioration of trust will continue to increase as long as the state continues to support the ideologies of manipulation of the people, which are also lies, but with a pseudoscientific wrapper. However, any change of government allows us to hope that this problem will be overcome by democratic means.
It is not enough to oppose pluralism
In the above interview on the ideological infiltration of the University, Prof. Boghossian bases freedom of expression on pluralism. This is well understood because he himself considers himself an atheist, which means that he cannot sustain a metaphysical foundation anchored in the being of things. This is the position of many teachers who do not understand that, unwittingly and without lacking intellectual sincerity, they are thus opening the doors to a regrettable relativism. They are practically behaving like the great intellectuals of the golden age of Greece, centuries before the Christian era, with the difference that they did not have to reject the Judeo-Christian wisdom because at that time the revelation, which has allowed the greatness of the West, had not yet manifested itself La familia y el auge de Occidente.
In the times of Pericles, Plato, Socrates and Aristotle there was slavery, abortion, the legal unprotection of women and so many other moral and social miseries that were considered normal. This confirms Dostoevsky’s phrase: without God, everything is permitted. Today we cannot be saved from ideologies by brilliant philosophical constructions, but by the conviction that God and the transcendent dignity of man are the ultimate foundation of everything, including the harmony between the individual and the state.
Some practical consequences
During the pandemic we have all seen the following drama, all over the world: on the one hand, hundreds of nurses and doctors have given their lives, due to prolonged contagion, in their efforts to save lives, and on the other hand we have seen the cold cruelty of the state, which imposed as the only remedy the vaccines it had bought. Moreover, the lockdown was unnecessary, as the Barrington Declaration had warned long before: La ´Barrington Declaration´ contra el ´lockdown´. And to make matters worse, the state has withdrawn the official license of many doctors to practice their profession, as a sanction for using other drugs or methods. Today we know that this attitude has cost the lives of thousands, even millions of patients and has totally ignored the Hippocratic oath of medical personnel.
Likewise, in universities, brilliant professors and scientists have lost their jobs for refusing to embrace ideologies such as Woke, genderism, LGTB or sex education of children. The same happens in the area of ecology: ideological fidelity is demanded from journalists, editors, scientists etc. Those who do not submit are denigrated and ostracized. And certain video and film industries are collapsing, because the public rejects their claims of ideological indoctrination.
What is most shocking is that all these disasters have been and are being made with taxpayers’ money, since the globalist agents, who pull the strings with impunity from behind the scenes, hide behind the secrecy of their conspiracies.
