Philosophizing a little
Man lies when he purposely misrepresents objective reality in order to gain an unfair advantage at the expense of others. And in a world like ours, which is a kaleidoscope that apparently spins and presents situations in a continuous flow at every moment, the occasion to lie has never been so seductive. This can be a pretext for falsifying things, just as they are. This happens in the economy, in the family (the worst thing being infidelity), in politics, in the experimental sciences, and above all, in philosophy, when the existence of extramental objects is denied, as occurs in the rationalist subjectivism of a whole host of philosophers who have been the occasion for the advent of the political ideologies of communism, Nazism and the current materialist pragmatism. Members of this sad club of thinkers are the English Locke, Berkeley and Hume, the Germans Kant, Fichte, Schelling, Hegel, Feuerbach, Engels and Marx.
The political discussion in the USA has reached the extreme of pretending to inaugurate the post-facto era, as a result of the abuse of lies, which in the end gives rise to the prejudice that truth is nothing but a function of the thousand and one ways of seeing and judging the real. And so, the lie can generate thousands of faces within a very wide spectrum, while the truth only has one face, which in the end ends up imposing itself.
Man’s inclination to lie coincides with his regrettable tendency to misbehave ethically. Some philosophers, marked by the old stigma of subjectivism, even claim to bury the truths of the Christian faith. This attempt has always been in vain, in every century and in every millennium, which they find mysterious, provocative, and even challenging. Today there are vast sectors of thought that deny God or face him with absolute indifference.
Hanna Arendt, a Jew, is the thinker who most deeply influenced political and social thought in the last century, especially in the United States. She tells us that the lie is a demonstration that man is free and at the same time it supposes a denigrating limitation of the own and other people’s freedom. Following St. Thomas and many others, we must be clear that lying does not increase knowledge, but rather diminishes it, just as a negative figure reduces the arithmetic result.
When the State lies
Where lies have caused and continue to cause the greatest damage is in political practice, when the starting point is a false conception of man, which is used in an attempt to justify political decisions that open the door to totalitarianism and tyranny. In this sense, for example, it is enough to start from the false principle that man is only body and matter, so that his maximum good is purely material, such as being healthy, eating and drinking and giving free rein to his instincts, without any moral code, because, as Dostoevsky said ‘if God does not exist everything is permitted’ .
In recent years we have been victims of the great States, which have committed the very serious omission of not being aware that they are allowing the proliferation of a materialistic ideology which, from certain points of command, is imposing a series of false principles in order to prevent births and to impose a kind of new world order. Let us look at the symptoms:
The tyrannical imposition of a false vision of man, consisting of propagating that sex is chosen by each person for himself, that homosexual unions are comparable to traditional marriage. At the end of this fall will be bestiality, sexual relations with a robot, etc.
Similarly, there is pressure for children to receive childhood sex education in schools, long before they can understand it.
The pressure to convince people that there can be a third sex, or even several more.
Pressure to recognize the right to die, of old people, from where it would then be the right to liquidate them as well as the unborn children. Here it can easily be recognized that the end sought is to reduce the population, for which any means is good, even terrorism and uncontrolled immigration.
The imposition of a new vocabulary and new concepts, according to the compulsory criterion of the ‘politically correct’, so that people end up thinking the way some who hold public authority want them to, especially in organizations such as the EU, Hollywood etc.
Persecution of the Christian faith, for example, through discrimination in schools, removal of crosses from classrooms, implementation of ‘unisex’ bathrooms etc. At the same time, direct or indirect Satanic worship is not stopped.
Anyone who opposes these impositions can lose his job or be persecuted in many ways, without being able to take advantage of the protection of the Laws, as before, because they are adapting more and more to this new situation. There are already many cases of families who have left Germany or another country, to save their children from these harmful influences. And right now, the disproportionate measures imposed by the state because of the crown virus make many suspects that the matter has a background of treason against the citizen and an advantage for a few who want to impose a new world order.
What is not a lie
When we prepare to read a fiction novel, or watch a movie, we accept beforehand that the author ‘cheats’ us. A very different matter is works that pretend to stick to the historical truth of the facts, where we have the right not to have the facts distorted. Nor do we lie when we do not reveal a professional secret, or when we do not vent the intimacies of our own family. There are many legitimate reasons not to tell the whole truth, as long as the person or the public does not have the right to know it. Nor does the scientist lie if, after much well-intentioned research, he formulates a wrong hypothesis, which is happening, for example, in the area of climate change.
The same applies to a politician who had the sincere intention of seeking the good of his citizens, even if the consequences later turn out to be disappointing. In prudential decisions of this kind, there are no true or false decisions beforehand. All that matters is that the reasons and grounds for them are real and that they have been weighed with reasonable prudence.
Youtube: the great ‘show’ of truth and lies
For not a few thinkers, youtube is an open window on man’s moral conscience. If souls were stuffed into a tube, youtube is the cut or section of it, teaching from the deepest baseness and depravity to the most exalted and holy. It is good, therefore, that there should be filters to prevent us from being stained with so much filth.
It must always be taken into account that the vast majority of those who post videos on youtube are looking for economic gain, because after a certain number of visits, the author starts to receive his so desired money. And to maximize the clicks or visualizations, from the anonymity videos are produced with very strong titles, no matter if the content is true or false. This is how so many predictions of the end of the world are understood -the last one was for September 23rd, when the planet Niburu had to crash to earth-, or that Yellowstone is about to explode, in the USA, or that the third world war is only a matter of a few days, etc. etc.
We also have to recognize that many videos are very interesting as the scientific topics when a person speaks who takes responsibility for what he says, natural phenomena, animals playing, movies etc. Perhaps what is most striking is the enormous proliferation of religious content and the concern for life after earthly death. From a cultural-anthropological point of view, youtube is a very large ‘display’ that reveals what people value as something good, even if what is said is not true. It reveals above all the deep existential anguish of the materialistic man, looking for cheap compensations for his inner emptiness, or seeking to escape through fun, sport, vices, etc.
