The resurgence of faith in the West

In search of paradise lost

The resurgence of faith in the West is impressive because it is not the result of some media campaign. Since the first century, this phenomenon has been repeated over and over again, beginning with the diaspora of Christians after the death and resurrection of Christ. Our world, dominated by the media and social networks, with its materialistic and relativistic vision, can only offer absurd ideologies.

However, this path toward the bitterness of nothingness has provoked the opposite reaction. In many places, this nefarious global and globalist bubble is bursting, letting in the sunshine of truth and the fresh air of a sure transcendent hope, free from materialistic meritocratic conditioning. This cruel determinism is at the root of many crises, including political ones.

In an article we wrote a few months ago (https://thinktanklatam.org/habla-la-burra-de-balaam/), we hypothesize that the Church’s deficit in living preaching is providentially compensated for by an impressive dissemination of the faith in the media: feature films, as in the case of the film about the passion of Christ, The Chosen, and many others. In addition, there has been an avalanche of Christian spirit on social media and websites.

In search of one’s own dignity and transcendence

While Lutheran Protestantism and Anglicanism are petrified, the Christian faith faithful to revelation is triumphing: a report here. The recent martyrdom of Charlie Kirk has sparked an unexpected interest in the faith, so that countless Christians are now seeking to be witnesses of Christ as Charlie was, and many people are beginning to read the Bible, go to church, or concern themselves with the salvation of their souls. See, for example, this article quoting the moving speech of the young widow Mrs. Kirk.

Pro-life activist Lila Rose and others shared this on Fox News just a few days ago: Here is the four-minute video interview with Christian singer and influencer Anne Wilson about returning to God.

We quote Jason Ashe: For years, headlines have claimed that Christianity in America is dying. Yet beneath all that noise, a quiet renaissance is taking place. People across the country are turning back to God, and this is manifesting itself in surprising ways.

In 2024, Bible sales in the United States increased by more than 20%, surpassing all other book categories. More than 14 million Bibles were sold, many of them to first-time buyers. And surprisingly, much of this growth is being driven by younger generations—Gen Z and millennials—who are seeking truth in a time of confusion.

They are not just inheriting religion; they are discovering faith for themselves. Many are gathering in small groups, reading Scripture together, and asking real questions about God and the purpose of life. This is not cultural Christianity, but a faith born of a personal encounter with Christ.

The movement is also visible beyond the bookshelves. Worship music is booming, and Christian songs are among the fastest-growing genres on streaming platforms. On social media, verses and devotions reach millions of people every day. Even Bible apps are thriving: the YouVersion Bible App has been opened billions of times this year alone, turning smartphones into instruments of faith transmission.

While church attendance is different than it used to be, new communities of believers are forming everywhere—in homes, on campuses, and in urban centers. These gatherings are smaller, more relational, and more passionate. They reflect a generation that wants to live out their faith, not just talk about it.

This is not a decline. It is a refinement. The Church is becoming more austere and stronger. Passivity in faith is being replaced by faith through conviction. Jesus’ promise still stands: “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Christian education

In both the United States and Australia, more and more believers are turning to home schooling or Christian schools to keep their children away from the decadence found in most secular schools in the West today. Writing about the situation in Australia, The Herald Sun reported:

Private Christian schools are growing up to six times faster than public schools, with the highest demand for schools with tuition fees under $7,500.

ISA chief executive Graham Catt said families were “voting with their feet.” “They are choosing independent schools because these schools meet their values, aspirations, and expectations,” he said. “Even though their children receive only half the taxpayer funding of public school students, families continue to make extraordinary sacrifices. That experience must continue to be supported.” The report notes that private schools receive $13,080 per student in government funding, compared to $24,860 for public school students.
