In this article, we reflect on the unexpected resurgence of faith around the world, especially in leading countries, thanks in large part to great films and impressive conversions of Jews, Hollywood celebrities, scientific authorities, and even certain leading governments: that is, in the face of the silence of today’s prophets, Balaam’s donkey speaks to us (Numbers 22 in the Old Testament).

Program for the eradication of faith

Until a century ago, it was customary to listen to a good sermon in church on Sundays. Moreover, the entire cultural atmosphere was well attuned to this spirit. But with the progress of science and technology, which carried within them the virus of atheistic rationalism, especially in the humanities, a slow departure from God can be observed, under the weight of two world wars.

And since 1945, the seeds of discord sown by secret societies, mainly in the educational and media sectors, have sprouted within the Christian wheat field. This seed was already present before, but since the end of the last world war, it has begun to sprout profusely in vast sectors of government and society. Its bitter fruit in history was wars and revolutions such as the French Revolution of 1789. Secret cabals have always been masters at devising ideologies as weapons, which manifested themselves later in the Russian Revolution of 1917, in Nazism, and then in the sexual revolution of 65 years ago, fueled by the contraceptive pill. Then came the promotion of abortion legalization and the program of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In 2024, without any democratic legitimacy, it proclaimed its 17-point action program promising greater progress and well-being.

However, part of the clergy has allowed itself to be weakened by the materialistic environment, so rich in cheap and seductive consumer offerings, and has thus begun to preach a “light” Gospel. Thus, many have avoided speaking about Christ on the Cross and the high demands of the divine commandments, not facilitating the faithful’s access to the sacraments—even closing churches during the pandemic—leaving the people of God orphaned of the help they have a right to receive.

It is precisely this silence and this defection that have moved God to speak to the masses in another way. That is to say, if the prophet does not speak, God makes Balaam’s donkey speak to us in the manner mentioned above.

To understand this even better, we must bear in mind that faith is a gift from God that man must care for and nourish as his own child, because it is based on supernatural realities and at the same time reinforces the voice of one’s own conscience, inclining it toward good. Ultimately, the de-Christianization of society is due to the personal failure of hundreds of millions of people who have freely turned their backs on God. And so, within the human heart itself, the mother of all battles is continually being fought, whose outward projection is so many human disasters and wars.

But Christian men who have fallen into sin can rise again with the strength offered by the Church in the sacraments. And this also applies to non-Catholics and non-Christians, because God gives everyone sufficient grace to save their souls. And the field in which the battle is fought is more than four thousand years old, first in Israel and then, since the redemption that began with the year 1 of our calendar. Since then, its geographical extent has reached the whole world and is constantly growing. In other words, the Church cannot be destroyed, but it can be disturbed, as we saw above. Today we see a repeat of the scene of salvation through the Red Sea or that of the boat tossed about by the waves, which were also miraculously subdued by Christ.

Christian culture and faith have within themselves an infinite capacity for renewal, because God always waits with his forgiveness and his constant willingness to make a donkey speak if men fail him in the Church. There we have the unexpected fact of the resurgence of faith throughout the world, especially in leading countries, fostered by great films and great conversions of Jews, Hollywood celebrities, scientific authorities, and even certain leading governments that have the courage to proclaim God. However, the deepest cause of the return to faith has been the unknown martyrdom of millions in Russia and its gulags and the holy and hidden lives of so many Christians and non-Christians, praying for divine protection.
